Toyota GR86 ZN8 Subaru BRZ ZD8 checker floor mats

Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ Fitment Guide: ZN6, ZC6, ZN8 and ZD8

Short answer: two generations, two patterns. ZN6 and ZC6 for the 2012 to 2021 cars, which covers the Toyota 86, GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ. ZN8 and ZD8 for the 2022 onward GR86 and BRZ. The floorpan changed between them, so the mats are not interchangeable.

This platform has more names than any other car we cut for. Toyota 86, GT86, FR-S, GR86, Subaru BRZ, and in Japan simply the 86. All of it comes down to two chassis codes.

Which one do I have

Chassis Years Sold as
ZN6 / ZC6 2012 to 2021 Toyota 86, GT86, Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ
ZN8 / ZD8 2022 onward Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ

The paired codes are just the Toyota and Subaru versions of the same car. ZN6 is the Toyota, ZC6 the Subaru. ZN8 is the GR86, ZD8 the current BRZ. Within each generation, one mat pattern covers both badges.

Why these cars wear their mats fast

The 86 and BRZ are driven the way they were meant to be driven, which is the whole point of the car and also why the interior takes more punishment than a comparable coupe. Heel and toe means your right foot pivots constantly in one spot, and the factory mats give up there first.

Our sets carry a reinforced heel pad at that exact point. The backing is rubber nipple plus velcro strips, and there is a metal grommet eyelet that locates on the factory retaining hook. In a car this responsive, a driver mat creeping toward the pedals is a genuine problem rather than an annoyance.

Carpet is high low loop, cut and bound by hand, with overlocked edge binding throughout.

The engine, on your garage floor

The FA20 is the reason this car turns the way it does. A flat four sitting low enough to drop the centre of gravity below cars costing twice as much, which was the entire design brief. Not fast in a straight line, and never meant to be.

We make it as a woven decoration mat, roughly a metre square, red on black. Garage floor, under a coffee table, or on a wall.

Brakes, if you have started doing track days

The 86 and BRZ share the Subaru hub pattern, which means our Brembo F50 big brake kits fit them directly. Same kit as the WRX and STI fitment, available in gold or green calipers, identical in hardware and price.

Wheel clearance depends on spoke profile rather than diameter alone, so send us your wheel model before ordering. Pad choice matters as much as the caliper: RS Blue works from cold for street driving, TS Purple needs heat and belongs on a track car. Full detail in the F50 brake kit guide.

What we do not make yet

There is no indoor car cover patterned for the 86 or BRZ at the moment. If you want one, it can be cut as a custom order. For what a velvet stretch cover does and why breathable beats waterproof on a garaged car, see the buying guide.

Care

Vacuum regularly, which is most of the job. For a deeper clean, brush with a soft carpet brush and mild detergent, then air dry fully before refitting. Do not machine wash.

FAQ

Will ZN6 mats fit a GR86? No. The 2022 onward car uses a different floorpan. You need the ZN8 and ZD8 set.

Does the Subaru BRZ take the same mats as the Toyota? Yes, within a generation. ZN6 and ZC6 share a pattern, as do ZN8 and ZD8.

Do Scion FR-S mats exist separately? No need. The FR-S is a ZN6, so the first generation set covers it.

Left hand drive? Contact us before ordering and we will confirm the correct side for your car.

Do the Brembo kits really fit an 86? Yes. The platform shares the Subaru hub pattern, so the WRX fitment kit covers the 86, GT86, FR-S and BRZ.
