Short answer: both of our FL5 sets fit the Honda Civic Type R FL5, the Honda Civic FL1 hatch and the Acura Integra Type S DE5. The checker set is red with a black checker pattern. The Racing Red set is solid red with no pattern, which sits closer to the factory Type R look. Both are the Version 4 final pattern, both come in left hand drive and right hand drive, and both are made to order in Melbourne.

The FK8 does not share this floorpan. If your car is the previous generation Type R, or an FK7 hatch, you need the FK8 and FK7 checker set instead. Fitting an FL5 mat to an FK8 leaves gaps at the footwell edges and the heel pad lands in the wrong place.

Construction is identical between the two. The only real decisions are the pattern and how often you are willing to vacuum. On a daily driven car the checker set stays looking clean for longer between vacuums, which is the practical argument for it. On a car that mostly lives in a garage, solid red reads cleaner and matches the seat stitching.
Why the pattern is called Version 4
The current cut is the fourth revision. Three earlier versions came before it, each adjusted to sit flatter against the FL5 footwell. That is the entire reason it is labelled a final edition. A mat that does not lie flat lifts at the edges, and a mat that lifts at the edges eventually finds the pedals.
How the mats stay put
Two things hold an FL5 mat in position. The backing is moulded rubber nipples that grip factory carpet rather than sliding across it, and velcro strips add a mechanical hold on top of that. A driver mat that creeps forward under heavy braking is a safety problem before it is an appearance problem, so this matters more than it sounds.
The driver mat also carries a nylon heel pad. Your right heel pivots in one spot between throttle and brake, and that spot wears through carpet long before the rest of the mat shows anything at all.
The part the mats do not reach
Honda did not carpet the whole FL5 footwell. The area beside the clutch pedal, where your left foot rests and braces under load, is bare plastic. No floor mat covers it, because it is not carpet to begin with. It collects dirt and scuff marks from shoe soles, and those marks do not come out.
The driver side protector is cut for that area and the dead pedal surround. It sits alongside the mat and finishes flush against the carpet edge instead of overlapping it.
Matching the boot
The FL5 boot mat uses the same carpet and the same red finish, cut around the factory boot floor shape including the load lip. Edges are bound so they will not fray where the mat meets the lip, and it sits flat without bunching when the rear seats are folded.
Care
- Vacuum regularly. This is most of the job
- For a deeper clean, brush with a soft carpet brush and mild detergent
- Air dry fully before refitting. A damp mat under a carpet is how footwells start to smell
- Do not machine wash
- Running the Racing Red set on a daily driver? Vacuum more often. Solid red shows dust that checker hides
FAQ
Will FL5 mats fit an FK8? No. Different floorpan. Use the FK8 and FK7 set.
Do these fit the Acura Integra Type S? Yes. The DE5 shares the FL5 platform and takes the same pattern.
Is there a left hand drive version? Yes. Left hand drive and right hand drive are both available and chosen at checkout.
What is the difference between checker and Racing Red? The pattern only. Checker is red with a black checker; Racing Red is solid red. Carpet, heel pad and backing are the same on both.
Will the driver mat slide toward the pedals? The rubber nipple backing plus velcro strips are there specifically to stop that.
Do the mats cover the whole footwell? No, and no mat does. The area beside the clutch is bare plastic from factory. The driver side protector covers it.
