Honda Jazz and Fit chassis codes: GD1, GD3, GE6 and GE8

If you are buying floor mats for a Honda Jazz, or a Honda Fit, you are buying for the same car. Honda sold it as the Jazz in Australia, the UK and most of Europe, and as the Fit in Japan, the United States and Canada. Same body, same floor, same mat.

What actually decides which mat fits is the chassis code, and that is where people get caught out. This guide lays out which code belongs to which car, which years each one covers in each market, and which set you need.

The short version

• GD1 and GD3 are the first generation, built June 2001 to 2008. In North America this was sold as the Fit for model years 2007 and 2008 only.
• GE6 and GE8 are the second generation, built October 2007 to 2014. In the United States this was the Fit for model years 2009 to 2013, and in Canada 2009 to 2014.
• GK5 and GP5 are the third generation, 2013 to 2020. GP5 is the hybrid.

One mat set covers each generation, because the floor pan does not change between the engine variants inside a generation.

What the numbers actually mean

The letters are the generation and the number is the engine. GD1 and GE6 carry the 1.3 litre L13A. GD3 and GE8 carry the 1.5 litre L15A.

This matters if you are in the United States, because the American car was only ever sold with the 1.5 litre engine. So an American first generation Fit is a GD3, and an American second generation Fit is a GE8. If you own a Fit in the States and someone tells you it is a GE6, it is not.

In Australia, the UK and Japan you will find both. A 1.3 litre Jazz is a GD1 or a GE6, a 1.5 litre is a GD3 or a GE8. For floor mats the engine makes no difference at all, but the code is how you confirm which generation you have.

First generation: GD1 and GD3

Production ran from June 2001 to 2008. Australia got the Jazz from late 2002. North America got it late and briefly, as the Fit for the 2007 and 2008 model years, after a January 2006 debut in Detroit and an April 2006 release.

If your car is a Jazz built between 2002 and 2008, or a Fit badged 2007 or 2008, this is your set.

Second generation: GE6 and GE8

Production ran from October 2007 to 2014. Japan got it first as a 2008 model. Australia followed with the Jazz GE. The United States had it as the Fit for 2009 to 2013, and Canada carried it one year longer to 2014.

If your car is a Jazz built 2008 to 2013, or an American Fit badged 2009 to 2013, this is your set.

Third generation: GK5 and GP5

The third generation ran 2013 to 2020. GK5 is the petrol car, sold in Japan as the Fit RS and in Australia as the Jazz. GP5 is the hybrid from the same generation.

The hybrid does not change anything that matters for mats. GP5 shares the front footwell with the GK5, so one pattern covers both.

How to find your code without guessing

It is in the VIN. On a Jazz or Fit the plate sits in the bottom corner of the driver side door aperture. Read the characters after the first three: JHMGE8 tells you second generation, 1.5 litre. JHMGE6 tells you second generation, 1.3 litre. The same pattern holds for GD1, GD3 and GK5.

Why a cut to chassis code matters for mats

A universal mat is cut to an average of several cars, which means it fits none of them. The Jazz and Fit floor pan has a pronounced footwell step and a seat rail position that a generic mat rides over, so the mat creeps forward and ends up under the pedals.

Every set here is cut to the specific generation, in high low loop carpet, with a nylon heel pad on the driver mat where the wear actually happens and rubber nipple backing so the mat stays where you put it.

Is the Honda Jazz the same car as the Honda Fit?

Yes. Honda sold the same car as the Jazz in Australia, the UK and Europe, and as the Fit in Japan, the United States and Canada. The floor pan is identical, so the mats are interchangeable within a generation.

What is the difference between GE6 and GE8?

Engine only. GE6 has the 1.3 litre L13A and GE8 has the 1.5 litre L15A. Both are the second generation car and both take the same floor mats.

Which chassis code is the American Honda Fit?

The first generation American Fit, model years 2007 and 2008, is a GD3. The second generation American Fit, model years 2009 to 2013, is a GE8. The United States only received the 1.5 litre engine, so GE6 and GD1 were not sold there.

What is the difference between GK5 and GP5?

GK5 is the petrol third generation car and GP5 is the hybrid from the same generation. They share the front footwell, so a single mat pattern covers both.

What years is each generation?
